The International Positive Psychology Association ( IPPA ) is the global leader in promoting the science of positive psychology and its research-based applications, and facilitating collaboration among positive psychology scholars, practitioners, and students worldwide.
How the International Positive Psychology Association (IPPA) re-engaged their community by migrating from Higher Logic to Mobilize.
The Problem
The International Positive Psychology Association relied on Higher Logic as the primary way to engage their 2000+ members. The majority of the members, however, were not engaged as they were not even logging into the community platform due to its poor user experience.
The Solution
Using Mobilize’s modern and user-friendly community platform, IPPA was able to re-engage their community and grow their community membership by 15% in 9 months.
Key Features
When it comes to promoting the science of positive psychology and research across the globe, the International Positive Psychology Association (IPPA) is the leader. They serve over 2000 members across the globe, acting as a bridge between the research of positive psychology and its practice.
Historically, IPPA members have been highly engaged through other channels. Yet when it came to community, this channel somehow fell flat and was lacking the engagement they knew they both wanted and could achieve. Over half of their member base had either never logged into Higher Logic, or had been inactive in the previous three months. IPPA leadership knew it was time to find a more updated approach to engaging members, and choosing a community platform outside of the industry leader in the association space was a risk they were willing to take.
Though they knew it was inevitable, IPPA was initially hesitant to move away from Higher Logic. Some of their top concerns included migrating to a platform that wasn’t as widely used in the association space, and leaving behind hundreds of pieces of user-generated content.
The challenges of moving away from “industry leading” platforms
The saying, “no one gets fired for buying [insert known-quality product]” can be applied to most industries. The problem with this saying is that it’s not actually true anymore. Technology cycles happen so rapidly now that older products can frustrate users and challenge IT departments while not meeting the defined goals.
In the case of IPPA, the association had originally chosen a community platform widely used among associations. And yet, the outdated usability and lackluster user experience of this popular platform ended up causing massive issues with adoption, integration, and data access.
Mobilize is a modern, user-friendly alternative to traditional community software. With a focus on professional networking and ease of use, associations see 3X more engagement from members on Mobilize than on other community platforms.
For IPPA, the transition from Higher Logic to Mobilize was a smooth, seamless, hands-off experience. By migrating years of content off of Higher Logic and onto the Mobilize platform, IPPA was able to preserve what they couldn’t afford to lose and have a modern, user-friendly community filled with high-quality content that users could actually access.
Mobilize now gives IPPA members a space where they can easily share content and search for the resources they need when they need them. IPPA members love the simplicity of their Mobilize community, and the data backs that up with over 30% of them actively searching for content month over month. Ease of use, intuitive searchability, and a more modern community solution have allowed IPPA to foster better engagement among its members, as well as help them find the right resources much more quickly.
Since moving to Mobilize, the IPPA community has grown by 15% in just under one year. Their community is primarily member-driven, with 85% of content being user-generated (the holy grail of content) and over 30% of members actively searching for (and finding) the content they want to consume. Taking a chance on Mobilize helped transform the IPPA community into the active member-led group it was meant to be.
